It protects you against many diseases, such as heart disease, diabetes and cancer. Eating a variety of foods and consuming less salt, sugar, saturated fats and junk food are essential for a healthy diet. A healthy diet comprises a combination of different foods. These include: cereals (wheat , rice); legumes (lentils and beans); fruit and vegetables; foods from animals (meat, fish, eggs and milk). It is very important to eat a lot of vegetables and fruit because they are important sources of vitamins, minerals, plant protein and antioxidants. People who eat large quantities of vegetables and fruit have a lower risk of obesity, heart disease, diabetes and certain types of cancer. It is also important to eat less fat: the wrong kinds of fat, like industrially produced fat, can increase the risk of heart disease and strokes .
